  3. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
  4.  
  5. The Business OperationS Suite is comprised of two programs,
  6. OWL Basic Bookkeeping (BBK) and OWL Automated Sales and
  7. Invoicing System (OASIS).
  8.  
  9. What is OWL Basic Bookkeeping (BBK)
  10.  
  11. BBK is an easy to use single entry accounting system that
  12. provides organized and accurate accounting. The "single
  13. entry" is especially suited for small businesses and
  14. individuals.
  15.  
  16. BBK helps you manage your bottom line by giving you instant
  17. access to up-to-the-minute reports showing your income,
  18. expenses, profits and losses.  You don't need to be an
  19. accountant to use BBK.
  20.  
  21. BBK can handle up to 1000 different expense types and
  22. supports both calendar and fiscal year accounting.  BBK's
  23. accounting folders allow independent bookkeeping for
  24. multiple businesses or multiple business elements within the
  25. same business.

  27. An import option within Basic Bookkeeping links the program
  28. to OASIS allowing direct transfer of income data from OASIS
  29. into Basic Bookkeeping.

  31. What is OASIS?
  32.  
  33. OASIS (OWL Automated Sales and Invoicing System) is a
  34. complete sales management system that includes: invoicing,
  35. automated billing, customer correspondence, mailing list
  36. management, and sales tracking.  OASIS Features:
  37.  
  38. Intuitive menus that minimize typing.  For example, to
  39. create an invoice you simply choose the customer and
  40. products sold from a series of menus.  OASIS fills in the
  41. invoice and computes the sales tax for you.
  42.  
  43. Customer tracking.  Customer profile reports show each
  44. customer, the items they have purchased and the dates each
  45. item was purchased.
  46.  
  47. Sales tracking.  Product sales reports give a complete
  48. picture of the products that are selling and those that are
  49. not.  The Buyers report shows you the names of customers who
  50. have purchased a particular product.
  51.  
  52. Mailing list management.  Customers can be separated into up
  53. to 100 groups. Mailing labels and mail merge files can be
  54. generated for any combination of one or more groups of
  55. customers.  This feature lets you target your mass mailings
  56. to just those customers who are most likely to respond to a
  57. given mailing.

  59. OASIS can be configured to automatically compute two sales
  60. taxes (e.g., Canadian GST and PST).
  61.  
  62. Income data entered into OASIS can be imported into OWL
  63. Basic Bookkeeping to provide complete tracking of both sales
  64. income and business expenses.

  67. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  68.  
  69. Microsoft Windows 3.1 or above, a hard disk, 4 MB of memory
  70. and a windows printer.

  73. UPGRADING FROM BBK and/or OASIS for DOS.
  74.  
  75. Complete instructions for upgrading your data files from DOS
  76. versions of BBK and/or OASIS are contained in the on-line
  77. user's guides.  When installing DO NOT install BBK and OASIS
  78. for Windows in the same directory where your DOS version of
  79. BBK and/or OASIS resides.

  82. REINSTALLING or UPGRADING from earlier Windows Versions.
  83.  
  84. If you are upgrading from earlier Windows Versions of BBK
  85. and/or OASIS or are reinstalling the program(s), we strongly
  86. advise that you run the Backup Data option(s) in the
  87. previously installed program(s) prior to installation.  This
  88. way, if you make a mistake during installation and
  89. accidentally overwrite your data files, you will be able to
  90. restore your data.

  93. INSTALLATION
  94.  
  95. To install BBK and/or OASIS, use the Program Manager to run
  96. BOSS4644.exe
  97.  
  98. 1.   From the Program Manager File menu or Windows 95 Start
  99.      menu, choose Run.
  100. 2,   In the Run dialog box, type "A:\BOSS4644" and choose OK.
  101.  
  102. The setup program offers the following installation options:
  103.  
  104. 1.   Installation Directory?  If you already have a copy of
  105.      BBK for Windows or OASIS for Windows on your hard disk,
  106.      then choose the directory where they presently reside.
  107.      The default is C:\OWL_BUS.
  108. 2.   Programs to Install?  You may install BBK, OASIS or
  109.      both BBK and OASIS.
  110. 3.   Backup Replaced Files?:  Select "Yes" if you would like
  111.      the setup program to make backup copies of all files
  112.      that are replaced during the installation.
  113. 4.   BBK Full or Upgrade Installation?  If you are
  114.      installing to the same drive and directory where BBK
  115.      for Windows was previously installed then choose the
  116.      Upgrade Installation option.  This will prevent your
  117.      existing BBK data files from being overwritten.
  118. 5.   OASIS Full or Upgrade Installation?  If you are
  119.      installing to the same drive and directory where OASIS
  120.      for Windows was previously installed then choose the
  121.      Upgrade Installation option.  This will prevent your
  122.      existing OASIS data files from being overwritten.

  125. RUNNING THE PROGRAMS
  126.  
  127. The data files shipped with BBK contain sample data which is
  128. provided to help you become familiar with the various
  129. options and capabilities of the program.  The sample data
  130. covers calendar year 1996.  The Getting Started section of
  131. the User's Guide contains a step-by-step guide to getting
  132. acquainted with Basic Bookkeeping.
